Engaging students with technology

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog about emerging trends in technology using Jing and Screencast! Many of our students, and educators as well, need to have audio/visual content when learning new skills. Using Jing to create screen captures or screen capture videos (screencasting) is a way to engage students with technology by giving them an image or video of whatever is being viewed on a computer screen. Once you create the screen capture or video, you can save and share it through Screencast by e-mailing the link to others or posting it on the Web. Make sure to visit my other pages to learn about how teachers are implementing Jing in the classroom.

Can you think of ways you could use screencasting in the classroom or through an online course?
View the video below to get some ideas.

  2. Thanks Kim, glad you found the information useful! I had used Jing in the past for screen captures and then e-mailed them to students. I liked the fact that with Jing you could edit the screen captures by adding highlighting, arrows and text messages.

  3. Hi Melissa! I didn't even think about emailing Jing screencasts to students but that is a great idea. I had a heck of a time trying to get my screencast onto my Wiki. I was trying to convert the file with my Technology expert......3 hours...ugh! I wish I used some of the text messaging though since I saw your Blog

  4. After using Jing for our virtual classroom, I absolutely fell in love with the software. I always saw tutorials that used this program but never knew how to actually use it myself. My goal is to use it next year in my math class. Not only do I want to use a Blackboard but I want to post videos of my lessons. Once a day I plan on using a Bluetooth headset and record everything I do on the SmartBoard through Jing. I will produce it as a screencast and post them all on my Blackboard site as study/ review material. What do you think?

  5. Kevin,
Recording you class time is a wonderful idea, just remember the free version will only give you 5 minutes at a time to record. Maybe you could break into segments though with new instruction, review or students sharing work at the board?

  6. Melissa,

Exceptional blog concerning "Jing", well done. "Jing" certainly provides teachers with a means to present instructional videos of a new skill or task. Additionally, "Jing" is a great resource for visual and auditory learners since the users can replay any segment of the video presentation. In the future, I would like to use "Jing" to create screencasts of certain complex instructional assignments that involve technology. For example, a Google Docs introduction screencast would help novice users learn basic functions and applications. "Jing" and other screencast Web 2.0 tools provide teachers and students with an opportunity to better learn how to use technology.

  7. I was not able to use jing to compete my screen cast assignment because of some technical difficulties so I am happy I had the opportunity to ad your blog. This definitely helped me get a clearer understanding of what you can accomplish with Jing.

  9. While the relationship of stocks to the dollar has not always been ""down dollar = up stocks"" it has been this year. And in this market, that

which gets rewarded gets repeated until someone's throat gets ripped out.
At times it has been that a strong dollar meant a strong America and a strong economy. All rules of logic are gone due to the oligarchs

    running the government.
